Welcome to TeachSmart a place to get teacher resources and read about ideas in the world of education!
First and foremost, I believe that kids and teachers are what matter most, so most of my lessons and blog posts have a central idea:
The relationship between a student and a teacher, and a classroom and their teacher can change lives.
People need connection to other people. It is the central and single most important thing in raising healthy kids on the inside and the outside. School is only one way that kids learn, but it’s a pretty big one and throughout my years in the classroom I can surely say that it is the one teaching tool that has made the biggest difference in the lives of both my students and myself. No matter what curriculum content you teach, it must happen with relevance an you’ve got to work hard to do it with a mutual respect – read more about it in this article on the blog.
I create resources for teachers that are creative, dynamic and thoughtfully prepared. My goal is to make the lessons hands on and give you the freedom to rely on a well constructed lesson or unit in order to concentrate your energy on your class, what they create and build your classroom culture. After all these years in the classroom, I still LOVE creating good lessons and units and I hope you’ll love them too.
What you will find at this website is:
- Easy to use, creative resources to help teachers in their classrooms that keep both the teacher and the student engaged. My lessons are ready to use and teacher friendly with everything included. You can see all the lessons on the Resources page.
- What I hope is relevant commentary on current teaching practices for educators. We should be thinking about what and how we teach kids. It’s the most important thing we do as a society. You can read my ideas about teaching on the Blog page. Most of my Blog writing will talk about the day to day world of teaching, but many articles will talk about the big ideas of education here in Canada and around the world.
- Eventually I hope to add a place for parents to get real feedback and insights about the education of their kids. Because they deserve every bit of help and partnership they can get. And we need their insights. Connection is everything.
